Get the starter rod in Docks
From southwest Meridian Market, use Take Cab to Docks. Follow the ramp down toward the fishing boats and small craft, then look for Boardwalk Ady on the other side of the dock area.
Talk to him for the free starter fishing rod. Look for Iron Cast S in your inventory; older guides call this rod Rusty.
Equip, cast and reel
With default PC controls:
- Press I to open inventory.
- Select the rod and click the hand icon to equip it.
- Face the water and left-click to cast.
- Wait while the indicator is blue.
- When it changes to the yellow or amber bite prompt, left-click to start pulling.
- Watch the reeling indicator and keep it in the green success range. Red signals failure or cancellation.
Do not pull as soon as you see the blue waiting indicator. The basic casting sequence does not require a separate bait step.
Check what you caught
A successful pull can bring up junk or a quest item as well as a fish. Read the result panel before choosing Take or Throw Back. An Old Android Head is a catch, but it is not a normal fish for a fish-collection goal.
Use the Fish Log for a target species
Press Tab and open the fish icon to view Fish Log. Check the target fish’s district, time and weather conditions, then fish in the matching water.
A catch at one hour does not mean every species is available then. Start with the log’s conditions rather than buying equipment for a fish in the wrong area.
